Community Service

The Greater Seattle Area Chapter of NACE is proud to support Northwest Harvest, a local hunger relief agency serving all of Washington State.  Our chapter has held annual food drives over the past five years, collecting an excess of 1000 pounds of food, baby supplies, and over $4000 in cash donations.  Our chapter was awarded 2010 and 2011 Community Service of the Year Award by NACE for our outstanding contributions to this local charity.  Individual volunteer efforts have also provided aid at the Northwest Harvest food distribution centers.

The need for help is always great, and we encourage the chapter to continue giving throughout the year as you can.

On October 27, 2012 some of your fellow Seattle NACE members donated their time to help Northwest Harvest.  We met on a rainy Saturday at the Kent warehouse and each donned plastic hairnets to work the assembly line at the packing plant.  We spent a few hours scooping, bagging, taping, and boxing frozen carrots and mixed vegetables to prepare for distribution at the local food banks.  It was a little different from the work that we normally do in our catering worlds, but it sure was fun!  Thank you to our members who volunteered: Jennifer, Justin & Steve Cox from Creative Ice; David Lobban from Lobban Photography; Luis, Robb & Monica Newby from A Grand Affaire Catering, Laura Mistretta from Honest to Goodness, and Amy Shaftel from the Seattle Yacht Club

Here are some photos showing the fun we all had!

And again on October 18, 2012 some more of your fellow NACE members rose above and beyond when called to action for helping Northwest Harvest plan an event to recognize its top donors.  This was our chapter's second consecutive year planning this annual event, and it was an honor for NACE to be entrusted with such an important evening for the organization.

Nearly 150 guests and Northwest Harvest staff socialized while enjoying appetizers and beverages generously donated by A Grand Affaire Catering, Kaspars CateringWhole World Catering, Honest to Goodness, Fun Frames Photo Booth, Creative Ice, Nash Fung, and Verterra.  Jazzy tunes by Kyle Harmon added to the atmosphere of thanksgiving.

"Kim, Shelley, I and many other Northwest Harvest staffers had the wonderful opportunity to visit with every single guest and all raved about the food, the party, what a nice time they had and how powerful and educational it was to come and see the Cherry Street Food Bank and meet the staff and volunteers.  I feel I can truly say that every person who came had a wonderful time and felt very appreciated.  Thank you so much for your time and your caring, generous spirit!" NACE Supports ProStart

In addition, NACE has been a long time supporter of ProStart.  The Seattle NACE Chapter has raised over $1,700 in donations over the past two years.  ProStart is a 2 year culinary education program that focuses on getting young students educated and placed in the culinary industry.  Students that complete this program are eligable to receive the ProStart National Certificate of Acheivement.  ProStart is part of the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation.

In 2012, NACE held an event to benefit ProStart and presented them with a donation.
