How many years have you been in the event industry?
At least six years
What is an average day in your life like?
Site tours, meetings with our chef and kitchen staff, and emails, emails, emails!
Why should someone use or refer the services you offer?
Are you planning a celebration, host a wedding, coordinating a conference? The WAC is a destination property in the heart of downtown with 16 meeting spaces that can accommodate 8 to 250 guests, a full service hotel and world class recreational facilities, the WAC is the place to meet and stay for over 87 years!
How did you become involved in the industry?
After receiving my certification in event management from the University of San Diego, I started with an internship with an event planning firm. During my time there, I worked on everything from Fashion shows to book signings, and even San Diego’s Annual ArtWalk which covers 17 city blocks! I have always loved weddings, so I started at I Do Bridal in 2011 after leaving an internship with Kelley Moore Creative Media back in Seattle. From there, I left to be a Catering Sales Assistant here at the Club in 2014, and been fortunate to progress to where I am now!
Why are you a member of NACE?
Because I love the opportunity to network with others in the events industry. It is fun attending the meetings and being able to see different venues!
What have you learned, what would you like to learn through NACE?
I have learned more about what it is like to be on the other side (guest side) of events, which is a wonderful way to see what I do from a different perspective! It is also great to be able to keep up on industry trends, and to hear about what others have been doing!
Do you have any professional and personal role models?
My Director Rick Cardona! He has taught me so much and has been a true mentor to me during my time at the Club. What I have learned from his proves to be invaluable every day. He is a great role model, and also a great friend. Personally, it is my Mom! She is my rock, my heart and my #1.
Do you have a career or industry tips that you would like to share?
Listen to your client! It can be easy to fall into a standard of what is ‘normally done’. It is important to make each event unique and cater to each individual clients’ needs.
Do you have any stories, or anything additional you would like to share about your time with NACE?
It has been a great time so far, and I can’t wait to create more fun memories with new friends!
